The price of copper fell 1.8% on Monday, trading data showed. Ongoing protests in China over quarantine restrictions are affecting expectations for demand for the metal, and a stronger dollar is holding back quotations.

March futures on copper on the Comex exchange fell by 1.83% to $3.564 a pound (about 0.45 kilograms).

At the end of trading on the London Metal Exchange (LME) on Friday, a ton of copper with delivery in three months shrank by 0.41% to $8,008, aluminum - by 0.21% to $2,362.5 and zinc - rose by 0.09% to $2,920.5.

There are protests in several cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai, over tougher quarantine restrictions. The intensification of anti-covid measures follows several days of updating the record for daily COVID-19 infections in the country.
