European Union diplomacy chief Josep Borrel said Monday that he believes NATO has enough threats and challenges beyond China.

NATO argues in its new strategic concept that China's policies run counter to the organization's interests and values. A previous version of the concept, adopted in 2010, did not include any reference to China. According to the Politico newspaper, at the NATO meeting in Bucharest on November 29-30, the foreign ministers will discuss the new report on how to interact with China.

NATO was not created for operations in the Pacific, because this is the North Atlantic Alliance, Borrell told the publication.

Another senior European diplomat told the newspaper on condition of anonymity that Britain is pressuring NATO over the PRC issue because London needs some form of multilateral structure after leaving the European Union.
