The UN has proposed to allocate next year the largest amount ever for humanitarian needs, according to materials on the organization's website.

According to a document developed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, $51.5 billion could be allocated for these purposes, which is 25 percent more than at the beginning of this year.

As clarified, this need is due to the growing number of people in need of humanitarian assistance. It is expected that in 2023 their number will increase by 65 million, reaching 339 million people in 68 countries around the world.

UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths noted that current extreme events will continue to have an impact next year, leading to a shocking increase in humanitarian needs.

157 million people received support measures in 2022. At the same time, 127 million were assisted with food, 26 million were provided with water, 24 million with livelihoods. 13 million children received psychosocial support. Besides, maternity counseling and medical assistance to refugees were provided.
