Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera has filed a lawsuit with the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israel over the death of its journalist Shirin Abu Akla, noted in statement released Tuesday on the website of the channel's owner, the Al Jazeera Media Network media holding company.

Today, Al Jazeera Media Network is referring the case of the murder of its colleague Shirin Abu Akla by Israeli occupation forces to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, the document said. According to the statement, Al Jazeera's legal team conducted a detailed investigation and uncovered new evidence based on several eyewitness accounts, the study of numerous videos and forensic data.

According to the Qatari holding company's appeal to the ICC prosecutor, "the new eyewitness accounts and video evidence clearly show that Shirin and her colleagues were fired upon directly by the Israeli occupation forces."
