Time magazine named Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as well as the "spirit of Ukraine" as the man of the year 2022.

Calling Zelenskiy's decision to stay in Kyiv and rally his country amid the ongoing war "fateful," Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal said this year's decision was the clearest in his memory.

For proving that courage can be as contagious as fear, for stirring people and nations to come together in defense of freedom, for reminding the world of the fragility of democracy – and of peace – Volodymyr Zelensky and the spirit of Ukraine are TIME's 2022 Person of the Year,” Felsenthal said.

Last year's winner was the head of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk.
