The program aimed at providing prospective officers with accommodation aroused great interest in Armenia, the Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan said on Wednesday.

The minister said this is evidenced by the increase in the number of cadets in the current academic year. At the same time, Papikyan drew attention to the fact that the law was adopted almost simultaneously with the entrance exams.

"Accordingly, the results of such a decision could not appear in full. The main beneficiaries of the changes are, in fact, high school students. They are the ones we need to work with. They need to be explained what social guarantees the state offers to those who choose the path of the military," said the head of the Defense Ministry.

Papikyan noted that the housing program is just a part of the large-scale reforms implemented in the army.

"Meanwhile, the transformations are comprehensive in nature," the minister said.
