A transgender woman convicted of rape will not serve her sentence in Scotland's only women's prison. Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced this amid controversy over where Isla Bryson, who was convicted earlier this week of raping two women when she was a man, should serve her sentence, PA Media reports.

Sturgeon confirmed that the Scottish Prison Service is conducting a risk assessment. She stressed that Bryson would not be placed in the Cornton Vale women's prison near Sterling.

Bryson, formerly known as Adam Graham, was convicted of raping one woman in Clydebank in 2016 and another in Drumchepel, Glasgow, in 2019.

Her ex-wife, Shonna Graham, 31, said his decision to change sex was a sham. She said she is very sympathetic to transgender people, but her former partner is trying to deceive the authorities.
