The State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia and Tana Energy Management Company on Friday signed a construction contract, with a cost of 18 million 495 thousand euros, for the modernization of the southernmost Meghri border checkpoint off Armenia.

The SRC informs Armenian News-NEWS.am that the aforesaid company was declared the winner in the international tender announced on December 23, 2021, for the implementation of construction work for the modernization and reconstruction of the Meghri customs point-department of the Southern Customs Department of the SRC.

Chairman of the SRC Rustam Badasyan, welcoming the participants of the event, expressed special thanks to all international partners, in particular, the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), for the huge work done together.

"The modernized Meghri checkpoint will definitely contribute to the creation of opportunities for quick border crossing in Armenia through the border checkpoint, as well as our vision of having a customs checkpoint in line with modern conditions," Badasyan emphasized.

The representative of Tana Energy Management Company expressed hope that effective cooperation between the parties will be formed as a result of joint work.

The head of EBRD Yerevan Resident Office, George Akhalkatsi, lauded the cooperation with the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, and expressed hope that there will be expected results at the end of this project.

The aforesaid construction work will be completed in 2026, as a result of which it is planned to have a modern checkpoint at Meghri.

The modernization of the Meghri border checkpoint is being carried out with loans and grants provided by the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
