Former U.S. President Donald Trump sued popular American journalist Bob Woodward for publishing an audiobook with recordings of interviews without the politician's consent, Politico reported.

The lawsuit states that Trump repeatedly warned Woodward that he was providing information exclusively for a future printed book. The politician said the journalist released the audio recordings without his knowledge, which violates copyrights.

The former president also insists that he faced financial losses because he did not receive any royalties from the sale of the audiobook. According to the Associated Press, Trump is seeking $50 million in compensation.

The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Pensacola, Florida.

Woodward is an employee of The Washington Post. He is one of the participants in the journalistic investigation that led to the Watergate scandal (1972-1974) and the resignation of U.S. President Richard Nixon. Woodward has authored such books as Fear: Trump in the White House (2018), Rage (2020), and Danger (2021), all of which focus on Donald Trump.
