Minister of Health of Armenia  Anahit Avanesyan had a telephone conversation with World Health Organization (WHO) director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

They discussed the severe humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh caused by Azerbaijan's blocking of the Lachin corridor, the Ministry of Health of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The possibility of WHO support in several directions were discussed, in particular: a mission to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground; supply and delivery of necessary medical supplies and medicines; and the clear position of the WHO about the situation.

Also, Avanesyan expressed her gratitude to WHO director-general Ghebreyesus and regional director for Europe Hans Kluge for their commitment to work together towards resolving these issues.

The WHO director-general, in turn, expressed his concern about the situation and promised to find solutions through joint work.

The Armenian health minister, for her part, emphasized that the permanent contact with WHO will be maintained in order to inform about the development of events and to register progress by WHO in the three directions mentioned above.
