The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in 2022 registered more than 1.5 thousand crimes of extremist orientation and more than 2.2 thousand crimes of terrorist nature, Interfax reported referring to the press service of the department.

"In January - December 2022, 2,233 crimes of terrorist nature were registered (+4.5%) and 1,566 crimes of extremist nature (+48.2%)," says the published data on the state of crime for last year on the website of the Interior Ministry.

According to the Interior Ministry, 851 crimes of terrorist nature out of the total number of registered crimes were committed this year.

The ministry also reported that the overall damage from crimes last year declined by 10.3% to Br748.3 billion. At the same time almost two-thirds of the damage (62.1%) accounts for crimes in cities and urban-type settlements.

Last year, the Russian Interior Ministry recorded a 21.4% increase in the number of crimes committed by organized groups or criminal associations - their number has reached 26 thousand.

Foreigners and stateless persons committed 40.2 thousand crimes in 2022, which is 10.3% more than in 2021. These categories of citizens also committed crimes more often - there was an increase of 0.8% (16.1 thousand crimes).

The number of cybercrimes in 2022 exceeded the mark of 522.1 thousand, an increase of 0.8% over the same period last year. Almost three-quarters of such crimes were committed using the Internet (381.1 thousand; +8.4%), more than a third (40.8%) - by means of mobile communications (213 thousand; -2.1%).
