Varuzhan Hoktanyan, head of programs of Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, presented the results of Corruption Perception Index for 2022.

The organization described the results of Armenia in 2022 as alarming because the index has considerably decreased in comparison to the last year and amounts to 46, which is 3 points less than in previous two years.

This index indicates that corruption remains a serious problem in many areas of the country, especially in the independence of the judiciary.

Despite this decline, Armenia's score remains above the global average of 43.

Armenia has lost 5 spots on the 2022 Corruption Perception Index, coming in 63rd place out of 180 countries, while in 2021 it was 58th.

The legal system has a selective approach.

Questionable public procurement, controversial appointments and other actions raise public suspicion, which leads to a decrease in the Corruption Perception Index. The decline could continue, the report noted.
