The Spanish authorities are planning to transfer four to six refurbished Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine in the first delivery. This was reported on Wednesday by the newspaper El Pais, citing sources in the government.

The final figure will depend on the condition of 53 combat vehicles, stored for about 10 years in Zaragoza. Now the Spanish Defense Ministry is negotiating about the urgent restoration of tanks. The publication specifies that so far Germany has announced the transfer of 14 machines as a first step, Canada - four.

The newspaper writes that the cost of repair of Spanish Leopard tanks could exceed half a million euros per unit. The estimated period of restoration of the tanks is two and a half months, which coincides with the duration of the course developed by the Royal Army for the training of Ukrainian tank soldiers. It will be held at the National Training Center in Zaragoza.

As the newspaper noted, the Defense Ministry could also supply Kyiv with a set of spare parts for the Leopard. The supply of ammunition - 120 mm shells - is more difficult to realize, since Spain does not produce them, and as a result, it would have to resort to the kingdom's army reserves.
