Iran's three naval flotillas simultaneously embarked on their first-ever long-ocean voyages, Iranian news agency Tasnim reported.

The report said the Iranian Navy's 89th flotilla will follow the 86th and 88th flotillas that have already sailed from the port of Konarak in Chabahar Bay in the southeast of the country.

The 86th Flotilla, or the 360th Fleet, consists of the helicopter carrier Makran and the destroyer Dana. The flotilla is ordered to circumnavigate the world and pass through the Panama Canal.

The 88th Flotilla destroyer Alborz has already begun patrolling the Gulf of Aden, where her duties include guarding merchant ships. The amphibious assault ship Tonb and logistics vessel Bender Abbas of the 89th Navy Flotilla will serve as a training ground for cadets of the Imam Khomeini Naval Academy in Nowshehra.
