The U.S. and the Philippines have announced plans for the U.S. military to gain access to four new bases in the country, according to a statement released by the Pentagon press office.

According to the statement, the plans are to accelerate full implementation of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the two countries. It noted that agreement has been reached to designate four new bases in strategic areas of the country in addition to the five bases already previously agreed upon.

The inclusion of these new facilities under EDCA will allow for more rapid support in the event of humanitarian and climate disasters in the Philippines, as well as to respond to other common challenges, the press release said.

The Pentagon noted that Еhe Philippine-American alliance has stood the test of time and remains indestructible.

The Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the United States and the Philippines was established in 2014 and allows the U.S. military to use facilities on Philippine bases.
