The U.S. and European Union countries are discussing the possibility of approving the supply of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine via Denmark and the Netherlands, The New York Times reported, citing officials from the United States and the EU.

According to U.S. officials, there are about 40 F-16 fighters in the Netherlands and the country has already begun transferring the air force to the F-35 fighter

As the publication's sources noted, any NATO member state must get the green light from President Joe Biden's U.S. administration before sending their existing U.S. fighter jets to Ukraine.

U.S. and European officials say it is more likely that such shipments of F-16 fighters will come from Denmark or the Netherlands, the report said.
