Norwegian ambassador to Turkey Erling Skjonsberg was summoned to the country's Foreign Ministry on February 2 and protested against a planned Quran burning ceremony in the kingdom, TRT TV channel reported.

The Foreign Ministry told the Norwegian diplomat that they were waiting for Oslo to ban the action, which could take place on February 3.

On January 23, the leader of the German movement Edwin Wagensveld, leader of Pegida Netherlands publicly tore and burned a Koran in front of the Dutch House of Representatives in The Hague. The action was aimed at supporting politician Rasmus Paludan, who had done the same thing in Sweden.

The Turkish General Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation against Paludan and Wagensveld. After the incident, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey views the possibility of Sweden joining NATO negatively.
