The Internet outage in Iran last week Wednesday was due to a major cyberattack, the country's Minister of Information and Communications Technology Issa Zarepour said.

"Last week's Internet shutdown was due to a major cyberattack that was repelled through the efforts of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication Technology staff... A preliminary investigation indicates a very large cyberattack that caused a drop in traffic," the minister said, IRNA reported.

Iranian media reported on January 25 that the internet went down across the country for several minutes. Later the same day, the public relations department of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Company of Iran reported that the problems have been resolved.
