Serbia has no plans to join NATO, despite various statements and assessments, and will continue to maintain its position of military neutrality, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Thursday during a special session of the Assembly (parliament), TASS reported.

"This morning I listened to nonsense from fake patriots saying that we are leading Serbia in the direction of Atlantic integration," Vucic stressed. "We are not. We will continue to maintain our military neutrality, and unlike those who have destroyed our army, we are building our army.

NATO's 1999 aggression against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia began on March 24 and lasted 78 days. The main reason for the air offensive operation "Allied Force" the leaders of the alliance called "the prevention of genocide of the Albanian population in Kosovo". According to NATO, during the operation the aviation of the alliance countries made 38,000 military flights. According to Serbian data, as a result of the bombings, 3,500 to 4,000 people were killed and about 10,000 injured, two-thirds of whom were civilians. Material damage amounted to $100 billion.

During the three months of NATO's bombing of Yugoslavia, 15 tons of depleted uranium were dropped in shells on Serbian territory. Afterwards, the country ranked first in Europe for the number of cancer cases. In the first 10 years since the bombing, 30 thousand people contracted cancer, of whom 10,000 to 18,000 died.
