Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is fully focused on the May 14 general elections planned in the country, he considers the date as a turning point for the future vision of the state, Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, close to government circles, wrote on Friday.

Selvi took part in Erdogan's interview with TRT television on Wednesday.

Erdogan is completely focused on the election. He sees May 14 as a watershed moment for Turkey's future vision. Turkey will either say 'enough is enough' or 'keep going.' That is why he is working hard. The opposition has not yet decided on its candidate, but Erdogan has already visited 66 provinces, held 34 meetings with young people and businesswomen, Selvi noted.

According to him, politicians are not curious, but it's time to learn Erdogan's art of winning elections.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said earlier that general elections (both presidential and parliamentary) in the country were scheduled for May 14. The Turkish leader said that the government will propose the parliament to accept May 14 as the date for Turkey's general elections, and in case of refusal, he will use the powers of the president. Erdogan's powers are enough to dissolve parliament and call early elections 60 days after the decree. Erdoğan will be the Union of the Republic candidate in the upcoming elections. A coalition of six opposition parties has not yet announced a candidate.
