North Korea during the XXIV plenum of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea adopted a new law aimed at protecting state secrets, CTAC reported.

The purpose of the law on protection of state secrets is to promote national security and the development of "socialist construction" by establishing a system and order.

It is not specified what is considered a state secret.

For their part, South Korean observers told Yonhap that the law seems intended to tighten government control and discipline in the face of lingering economic problems.

The Ministry of Unification of the Two Koreas viewed the move as a reflection of the Kim Jong-un regime's efforts to strengthen its overall social order.
