Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has called an emergency meeting of the country's government to discuss the damage caused by the earthquake, the Syrian President's office informed.

"President Bashar al-Assad heads the meeting of the council of ministers, where the question of the damage caused by the earthquake and the necessary measures is being discussed," noted the statement of the President’s office.

According to the latest data of the Ministry of Health of Syria, 111 people died in the earthquake in the country, and 516 people were injured.

The 7.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in Turkey's Kahramanmaras Province at 4:17am local time, causing destruction in a number of cities. It was informed about the resultant devastation that happened in several regions of Syria, too, and the earthquake was felt also in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
