In Syria's second-largest city Aleppo, an earthquake has completely destroyed 40 houses, Aleppo province governor Hussein Diyab told the Syrian TV channel Al-Ikhbariya on Monday.

"So far we have recorded 60 deaths, 270 wounded and the total destruction of 40 residential buildings. These figures will be updated because rescue efforts are continuing in all parts of Aleppo city," the governor said.

The total number of victims of the earthquake in Syria rose to 248, 700 people were affected
