Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, during a joint news conference with German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock, expressed his condolences regarding the earthquake that happened in Turkey and Syria, wished fortitude to the relatives and friends of the casualties, and speedy recovery to the injured.

"Despite all the complexity of relations and the situation, Armenia extended a helping hand and expressed its readiness to provide humanitarian assistance to both Turkey and Syria. We, as a nation facing the devastating earthquake of 1988 [in Armenia], consider it important that no society is left alone during a natural disaster," said Mirzoyan.

The Armenian FM added that the matter of providing aid to Syria and Turkey—and in the form of delivery of first aid cargo and sending of rescue squads—is being discussed now.

"Let me repeat. We saw the devastating consequences of the earthquake [in Armenia] in 1988. At that time we were not alone, we received the help of the international community. And we should be ready to lend a helping hand to the affected nations," Mirzoyan noted.
