Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani praised the expansion of relations with Russia in various fields, Tasnim reported.

Shamkhani arrived in Moscow on Tuesday to take part in the fifth session of the regional security dialogue, which focuses on the situation in Afghanistan.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, he said that relations between Iran and Russia in various fields, including economy, defense, security, scientific and commercial ties, are fundamentally developing.

Shamkhani said that in order to ensure the sustainable development of ties in various fields, the roadmap of bilateral relations drawn up by the leaders of the two countries must be reviewed and implemented.

As for consultations in the Moscow format on Afghanistan, he said the meeting will discuss political, economic and security developments in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan's problems stem from the ineffectiveness of the occupiers and the events that followed the occupation, he added, warning that Afghanistan could become a regional tipping point.

The Moscow Format Consultation on Afghanistan, launched in 2017, is a regional platform involving special envoys from Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, India, China and Pakistan. Its mandate is to promote political reconciliation between the then internationally supported Kabul government and the Taliban, establish peace and ensure regional security.
