The British government has announced new sanctions against Russia for its war against Ukraine. According to Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, the punitive measures are aimed at individuals and organizations that Russian President Vladimir Putin's military relies on, and are designed to accelerate economic pressure on Russia, undermine its war machine and help Ukraine win. This is about six companies producing military products, one organization and eight citizens of the Russian Federation, according to the website of the British government.

In particular, the sanctions will apply to Putin's personal friend and fellow student, Russian entrepreneur Nikolai Yegorov; Viktor Myachin, co-founder of the Ozero cooperative society, who is believed to be involved in creating the financial base of Putin's regime; business ombudsman Boris Titov, who owns the Abrau-Durso group of companies; Regnum news agency editor in chief Sergei Rudnov; and Svetlana Krivonogikh, a minority shareholder in Bank Rossiya, whom the independent media describe as the Russian president's former mistress.
