The State Duma will prohibit the Russian media to write about the fact that members of volunteer military formations had a criminal record - it will be regarded as discrediting. New amendments to the law on discrediting the Russian army were announced by United Russia deputy Vasily Piskaryov, RBC reports.

The amendments have been sent to the Duma Committee on State Construction.

Earlier, the Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin asked the founder of the "Wagner" PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin about such a law. He said that the media often write about the PMCs employees, including prisoners, in a negative light, "presenting them as villains and criminals."

Last October, RBC has analyzed the statistics of the "GAS Justice" system and the Moscow courts' portal. The data as of October 19 shows that 4,800 administrative cases were opened in Russia to discredit the Russian army. Cases on discrediting of the armed forces arrived to judicial bodies almost daily: during the period from March 6 till October 19 courts of the first instance did not register new materials only for 39 days - generally these were days off and holidays.
