Armenia values Armenian-Portuguese relations, and believes that the visit of newly appointed Ambassador will contribute to further development of bilateral cooperation, Armenian-Portuguese friendship group member Vladimir Vardanyan said during his meeting with Madalena Fischer, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Portugal to Armenia, on Thursday.

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for the development of Armenian-Portuguese relations, NEWS.am was informed. The sides particularly stressed the need for cooperation between the parliaments, and particularly between the parliamentary friendship groups.

The Armenian parliamentarians expressed readiness to support the initiatives aimed at deepening of bilateral cooperation, especially taking into account the unused potential in several spheres.

The interlocutors touched upon mutually beneficial and effective cooperation in international organizations. The importance of the deployment of the European Union civil observer mission in Armenia was stressed.

The members of the group also raised problems connected with the humanitarian crisis and security in Artsakh due to Azerbaijan's blocking the Lachin corridor. The NA deputies highlighted the importance of the reaction and actions of the international partners in the settlement of the created situation.

Armenia is a friendly country, and Portugal is concerned about its territorial integrity, noted the Ambassador, mentioning the necessity of regional stability and security.

During the meeting the process of reforms in Armenia was also touched upon. She expressed readiness to present the experience of holding democratic reforms in Portugal, which has also passed the way of revolution.
