Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said his talks with Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Saturday were "sincere, deep, and transparent" as the two countries strive to restore full diplomatic relations.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Cavusoglu in Cairo, Shoukry said that they discussed the possibility of reinstating their ambassadors.

"We will start the negotiations [on reinstating the ambassadors] at a convenient time, depending on the positive results," Shoukry added.

Relations between Turkey and Egypt deteriorated in 2013, after the stepping down of then Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, who was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist organization.

Morsi died during the court hearing on the espionage case. Turkey had announced at that time that he was killed.
Subsequently, Egypt recalled its ambassador from Turkey, and declared the Turkish ambassador to Egypt persona non grata.
