YEREVAN. – Cases of being granted political asylum based on the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) membership cards have become more frequent in recent months in the United States, according to Zhamanak (Time)

 newspaper.

“Presenting themselves as opposition RPA members and submitting the party cards confirming this, [these] applicants to the US migration services declare that they are subjected to political manhunt and persecutions in Armenia.

“We know at least two [such] cases when these petitions have been honored, and the applicants have received political asylum.

“Thus, becoming an RPA member and having a [respective] membership card becomes the most reliable way to settle and get a status in the US,” Zhamanak wrote.
