YEREVAN. – Armenia’s agencies in charge shall take steps, within two weeks, to fill the gaps in the law in order to rule out in the future a repetition of the example of the canceled Hurghada-Yerevan flight, Zhoghovurd (People) newspaper reported.

“The current legislation does not obligate travel agencies to fulfill their duties; the [respective] arena is liberalized, and which leads to such situations.

“And Zhoghovurd daily learned that the incumbent authorities consider the matter of introducing an insurance mechanism as one of the options for resolving the issue.

“People who left for [Hurghada,] Egypt [from Armenia] with the [tour] packages of A&R travel agency had remained there because of the cancelation of the flight [back to Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan], since the agency had not transferred the [flight] money, and they returned to Armenia only after the [Armenian] government allocated the money.

“In addition to the criminal case initiated into this incident, the economic competition [protection state] commission [of Armenia] also has begun a study of the [Armenian] air transportation market toward Egypt,” Zhoghovurd wrote.
