YEREVAN. – On September 11, 2018, the wiretapped voice recording of the telephonic conversation between Republic of Armenia (RA) National Security Service (NSS) director Artur Vanetsyan and Special Investigation Service (SIS) chief Sasun Khachatryan was posted on the internet, and in which they were discussing the criminal case into the events that occurred in capital city Yerevan, in March 2008, Zhoghovurd (People) newspaper recalled.

“Two months later, another voice recording was released where RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, SIS chief Sasun Khachatryan, and NSS director Arthur Vanetsyan were talking.

“The RA Investigative Committee had launched a criminal case (…) on the wiretapping scandal.

“One year of the aforementioned criminal case will be over in the near future, but there are no suspects, defendants in the case yet.

“According to information which Zhoghovurd newspaper has received, the [Armenian] law enforcement agencies solely have a premise that the wiretapping of the RA law enforcement agencies and the Prime Minister was carried out in one of the CIS countries. And there are reports that the case has been fully solved,” Zhoghovurd.

On March 1 and 2, 2008 the then authorities of Armenia used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown Yerevan, and against the results of the presidential election on February 19, 2008. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes.
