YEREVAN. –Following his recent bout in Yerevan, Armenian world boxing champion Vic Darchiyan gives an interview to Hayots Ashkharh daily.

Were you very sad that you did not win by knockout?

The knockout didn’t come because I wanted it very much. I wouldn’t say I was very sad, since the fight was amazing and my opponent wasn’t bad; he’s a top-rate athlete. If I hadn’t concentrated on absolutely knocking Mbamba out, the knockout would have come. I very much wanted to strike the devastating blow especially in the end because I knew that the sports fans gathered at the stands were likewise waiting for it impatiently.

Were you planning on presenting the champion’s belt to the country’s leader?

Of course, I had intended that. That was agreed upon with IBO authorities beforehand, and everyone knew about it.

What did the fight give you?

First of all, this was a historic victory for me because I was competing in Armenia for the first time as a professional. Everyone saw that, even though it’s very difficult to organize such events in our country, everything went smoothly and well.

Does that mean such events might take place in Yerevan again?

It’s difficult to say. It’s quite possible that both the Americans and the Australians may wish to organize live-broadcast fights in Armenia.

Will you stay long in Armenia?

Perhaps for one week. Then we’ll head to Russia, Europe, and from there to Australia. I want to travel a little in Europe with my family.
