YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd newspaper writes: The draft law on constitutional amendments was adopted by the National Assembly with 89 votes in favor—without votes against and abstentions.

The draft proposes to terminate the powers of the CC [Constitutional Court} judges who have been in office for more than 12 years. Thus, Hrayr Tovmasyan's tenure as president of the CC and the powers of 3—Hrant Nazaryan, Feliks Tokhyan, and Alvina Gyulumyan—out of 9 [CC] members will be terminated.

Moreover, these changes will be made quite quickly, and after the publication of the bill by the National Assembly, the MPs can elect new members of the CC already by secret ballot in the parliament.

(But) as of yesterday, the [ruling] My Step [bloc] members did not have candidates [as new CC members], and in that sense they were in heated discussions, not knowing who to nominate for three seats at once. Moreover, the election must take place on the same day.
