YEREVAN. – Well-known sociologist Aharon Adibekyan stated that violence against women has decreased in Armenia because the number of men has reduced in the country, as many of them are leaving to work abroad, Chorrord Ishkhanutyun daily reported.

“If all men were to leave for work abroad, the number of smokers, drinkers, and street brawls also would sharply drop in Armenia.

“The migration service [of Armenia] can now just count the bruises on women’s different body parts, instead of conducting complicated studies, to find out the actual extent of emigration [from the country]; if, of course, the counting process is not perceived as violence,” Chorrord Ishkhanutyun wrote, in sarcasm.
