YEREVAN. – According to official data, the total infertility factor in the Republic of Armenia (RA) is 17 percent. And according to the World Health Organization, over 15-percent infertility is considered a critical indicator, Aravot daily reported.

“And the more the infertile couples grow, the demand for surrogate mothers grows that much more.

“For many, the surrogate mother service is happiness for infertile families to have a child, and for many—it seems a chance to make big money by ‘selling’ a child.

“Even though the RA law does not prohibit providing a surrogate mother service, some experts say the surrogate mother service can be business, and not goodwill, for many.

“The [RA] law does not regulate the surrogate mother service cost. And even if were to be regulated, it will not prevent some people’s appetite to make money, unless it is made free.

“This service is around 15 to 30 thousand [US] dollars in our country,” Aravot wrote.
