YEREVAN. – The Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, on Thursday adopted the resolution on Armenian Genocide recognition, reported Zhamanak newspaper.

“As always, the Armenian issue is a tool in larger-format relations; this is also natural, normal. The matter in this case is, aside from the centers of global power, whether Armenia also is able to use this tool to the benefit of its [own] interest and security.

“What does this [i.e. the Bundestag passing of the said resolution] mean for [the Republic of] Armenia [RA], in addition to the moral and psychological context? (…) And in this context, the matter of what impact will the Germany parliament decision have on Azerbaijani President’s upcoming visit to Germany on June 7, and his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, certainly becomes very important for the near future.

“And in this context, of course, whether Berlin will attempt to somehow cajole or ‘recompense’ Ankara, through Azerbaijan, is interesting from Armenia’s perspective.

“The RA’s interests are definitely touched upon, and they contain both risks and opportunities. The entire matter is how ready is Yerevan itself, as a subject, to make use of the situation,” Zhamanak wrote.
