YEREVAN. – The main regional representation MP candidates spent huge amounts of money to run for parliament in Sunday’s election in Armenia, according to Zhoghovurd (People) newspaper.

This newspaper has learned that businessman MP Artak Sargsyan, for example, had invested US$5 million in the election process.

“This money was spent to open campaign headquarters, give salaries, for campaigning, and as vote-buying.

“[But,] to note, despite all this, he got 12,027 votes, conceding to [National Assembly speaker] Galust Sahakyan’s son Arman Sahakyan, who garnered 18,532 votes [in their election district],” wrote Zhoghovurd.
