YEREVAN. – Previous talks, according to which Constitutional Court (CC) President Gagik Harutyunyan will be leaving office in March 2018—right when Republic of Armenia (RA) President Serzh Sargsyan’s second “phase” in office will come to an end, have resurfaced these days, according to Past (Fact) newspaper.

“The matter of appointing-electing Gagik Harutyunyan to the office of the RA President in 2018 is discussed by the ruling elite.

“At that time, the CC President will turn 70 years old, [and] he has the necessary experience for this office; also, he is non-party, which is mandatory for being appointed to the President’s office.

“The RA President’s powers are limited under the new Constitution. But, as they say, it is not the office that ‘decorates’ a man, but [it is] the man—[that ‘decorates’] the office,” wrote Past.
