YEREVAN. – A statement that was made by the head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, coincided with an indicator which the National Statistical Service of Armenia issued on Thursday, according to Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) newspaper.

Świtalski had stated that if corruption in Armenia does not get a proper response, it will hardly be possible to expect significant EU investments in the economy of the Republic of Armenia (RA).

“And according to official data publicized by the RA National Statistical Service, the net inflow of foreign investments made from European Union countries in the RA economy in the first quarter of this year was negative. That is, figuratively speaking, there was an outflow—from Armenia—of the profits that were received from the previously made investments; and the outflow exceeds 9 billion drams [about US$18,683,820]

“The net inflow from several European Union countries is a plus, but they are very small.

“These small amounts have not led to the overall balance to be positive,” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
