YEREVAN. – President Serzh Sargsyan is considering the option of making Constitutional Court chief judge Gagik Harutyunyan the President of the Republic of Armenia (RA) in 2018, according to Zhamanak (Time) newspaper.

“In 2004 and 2008, the latter [Harutyunyan] provided invaluable service to the authorities of [second President] Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan.

“Furthermore, he has a great contribution in the Hayastan [(Armenia) All Armenian] Fund. He is considered by virtually all the circles of the [Armenian] diaspora as a non-discredited, or little discredited, Armenia official.

“So, next year, when Gagik Harutyunyan will turn 70 years old and he shall leave the office of Constitutional Court President, Serzh Sargsyan will propose to him to assume the office of the RA President.

“It seems Gagik Harutyunyan is the only person whom the NA [National Assembly] will elect to this office without any problem,” wrote Zhamanak.
