YEREVAN. – Those who import cars into Armenia from the US will face problems in the near future, and a new wave of protests will develop soon in the country, Zhoghovurd (People) newspaper reported.

According to the information the paper has received, the personal web pages of the aforesaid importers will be closed as of August 20, meaning they will no longer be able to participate in US auctions of cars. The American auction offers are more interesting because they enable to purchase a car at far more affordable prices.

For more than a week now, Japanese auctions are closed for those who import cars into Armenia from Japan. Most of these importers’ personal web pages, with which they participate in these auctions, were closed a few days ago. There are only a handful of companies in Armenia that are still able to participate in these auctions; but it is not known until when.

According to analysts, the reason for this situation is the expected increase, as of January 1, 2020, in customs duty on new cars to be imported into Armenia.

And the Japanese auction dealers, for their part, do not guarantee they will be able to transport the cars to Armenia within five to six months, and say they may not be able to do this until New Year.
