YEREVAN. – Past newspaper of Armenia writes: The fact that the process of community enlargement that started under the previous authorities has been accepted with dissatisfaction by the provincial population almost needs no proof (…).

A striking example of this is the uneven picture in a number of enlarged communities currently present and the discontent among the population.

However, as current processes show, the authorities of the day continue to implement the enlargement plans of the former authorities.

Past newspaper has learned that the authorities are heavily involved in the preparation of a new phase of community enlargement, though at the time still opposition MP [but now PM] Nikol Pashinyan was strongly criticizing the initiative from the NA podium, saying that with that move “we are leading the villages to desolation and death.”

Specialists in the field argue that this is also a unique option for community mobilization, for the authorities (both previous and present) to be able to easily manage the provincial segment.

The newspaper has been informed that the impetus for this process is also due to the fact that the authorities currently operating in small communities have little direct impact; the main personnel are representatives of the former system.

Moreover, one of the government officials stated in one of his interviews that there is no alternative to uniting communities to resolve the issue.
