YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes: There is a lot of active talk spread these days in penitentiaries that the newly appointed minister of justice will declare an amnesty in late November-early December. By the way, according to the news, this amnesty has nothing to do with the amnesty to the military.

Zhoghovurd daily applied to the Ministry of Justice from where they said that they did not have such information.

Let us remind that the government intends to pardon the citizens who took part in the 44-day [Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)] war [last fall] who are involved in criminal cases against the order of military service. The draft law "On Amnesty" proposed by the Investigative Committee is circulated on the joint website for publishing draft legal acts.

The committee presents the purpose of its proposal as to appreciate the citizens who stood with the Armenian Armed Forces during the days of the war, and emphasizes: "this shows a humanitarian approach to those persons who committed crimes aimed at the order of military service."
