YEREVAN. – Hraparak daily of Armenia writes: Yesterday it became known that Edvard Asryan was appointed the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, who before that held the position of the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and earlier he was the Head of the Operational Department of the General Operational Department of the General Staff.

Asryan is one of the generals who, after the 44-day [Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)] war [in the fall of 2020], in February 2021, demanded the resignation of [PM] Nikol Pashinyan (...). But after a few months, he became so "smart" that he attempted to justify the deployment of the enemy [i.e., Azerbaijan] in the area of Sev Lake.

And by the decree of September 27, 2021, Edvard Asryan was relieved from the position of the Head of the General Operational Department of the General Staff, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces because he was seen talking for 10 minutes near the former minister of defense, the leader of the [opposition] “Armenia” Faction [in the National Assembly (NA)], Seyran Ohanyan, during which he had addressed Ohanyan as "Mr. General," which was not liked, in particular, by the chairman of the NA [Standing] Committee on Defense and Security, Andranik Kocharyan.
