YEREVAN. – Hraparak daily of Armenia writes: Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Congress members had a closed meeting also with the 2 NA [(National Assembly)] opposition factions on Sunday. (...).

We have learned some details from the meeting.

The Congress members gave vague answers to all important questions (...).

And when the Congress members explained why they support the current [Armenian] authorities, that they support the democracy established in Armenia after 2018, the oppositionists first asked where that democracy is, which they do not see, and then they listed—one by one—all the pressures and repressions which the authorities are carrying out against oppositionists, disobedient local government leaders, journalists and others. The Congress members listened with surprise to the oppositionists, promising to make adjustments in this regard.

The [Armenian opposition MPs] MPs inquired about the reports on [US] assistance, both programmatic and political. The Congress members said that Armenia should first formulate what kind of assistance they expect from them.

To the oppositionists’ rebuke that only empty condemning statements are not enough, sanctions should also be imposed on Azerbaijan, they again did not give clear answers, saying that they will discuss all these issues more thoroughly upon returning to the US.
