Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Greek Ambassador Christos Sofianopoulos on the occasion of the Independence Day anniversary of Greece.

Welcoming the guest, the President, in the person of the ambassador, congratulated the leadership and people of Greece on their national holiday.

"We have warm relations with Greece, and this is also related to our history, our principles and beliefs. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the support we have received from Greece in these years and especially in recent years, when Armenia has been experiencing great difficulties. You have been by our side and continue supporting us during the period of overcoming these difficulties. I am confident that our cooperation and this quality of relations will continue," the Armenian President said.

Extending thanks for the reception, Ambassador Sofianopoulos noted: "It is a great honor for me to be here. Armenia is a friend of our country, relations with which go back centuries. Our bilateral relations are developing and deepening today. Greece fully supports Armenia's efforts to establish long-term peace, stability and development in the region."

During the meeting, the broad agenda of cooperation between the two countries was discussed. The steps taken toward the full implementation of the existing potential in the political, economic, cultural, military, high-tech, and some other spheres were highlighted.

The parties exchanged views also on the opportunities of further expansion of close cooperation between Armenia and Greece—both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the European Union and numerous other international platforms.

Both sides lauded the reforms being carried out to strengthen democratic values and institutions.

Over the course of the meeting, the sides touched also upon the general regional realities, as well as the details and principles of the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and, in this context, the current contacts on the border delimitation process.
