The future of the entire South Caucasus is only a tool for Paris. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), announced this at a press briefing Wednesday.

"The future of the entire South Caucasus—and we now take Armenia, Azerbaijan and neighboring countries, as you can draw borders on an outline map, but it is difficult to draw them in the economic, humanitarian sphere, so let's accept the South Caucasus in a broad sense—its future is only a tool is for Paris. (…) France's presence in the South Caucasus region is an attempt to gather intelligence, monitor the countries of the region, and prevent the implementation of the peace agreements reached between our countries, including economic agreements," she said, in particular.

According to Zakharova, if the real goal was peace and security, then France would do everything in order to implement the agreements reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia through the mediation of Russia since 2021.

"But as you can see, they took the opposite course," she added.

According to Zakharova, it is naive to think that France is ready or able to ensure the security of the South Caucasus.

"If France had such opportunities, this country would use them in the countries where Paris had contractual obligations," she said.
