On 6 May, the Israeli army launched airstrikes on the eastern part of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. Sources in the Palestinian security forces and eyewitnesses report. 

The sources and eyewitnesses told Xinhua that the Israeli airstrikes caused pockets of fire in the vicinity of Gaza airport and on the outskirts of the Al-Salam neighborhood, east of Rafah.

The attacks caused powerful explosions and extensive damage to nearby structures, with no injuries reported yet.

Prior to the strikes, the Israeli army called on Palestinian civilians to temporarily evacuate the eastern part of Rafah.
