Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that, despite the huge progress made in the fight against corruption, the Armenian government did not succeed in eliminating corruption, but it is indispensable to continue working in that regard, be persistent, and be on the agenda of democratic reforms. The Armenian premier said this at the discussion, entitled "From the frontline: Armenia’s defence of democracy," on the margins of the Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2024, while addressing the question of what steps Armenia is taking in terms of the fight against corruption in the country.

Pashinyan reaffirmed his opinion that Armenia has made huge progress in the fight against corruption.

“Unfortunately, we cannot say that we have managed to eliminate corruption from Armenia. But what to do? Continue to be persistent and be on the agenda of democratic reforms. And that why cooperation with the European Union is extremely important for us, as the European Union is now our main partner in the agenda of democratic reforms,” said the Armenian premier, expressing hope that the European Union and the United States will also raise the level of assistance for Armenia in the agenda of democratic reforms because democracy is a strategy for Armenia.

Pashinyan said that Armenia started a strategic dialogue with the United States in 2019, and now the expansion of Armenia's cooperation with the European Union is already evident.

“I noted that we had a tripartite meeting between the United States, the European Union and Armenia—and by the way, it was an unprecedented format, and we adopted a huge agenda for institutional reforms, economic reforms,” the premier of Armenia noted, adding that it is very important to get much greater assistance from the US and the EU to address the humanitarian needs of the forcibly displaced Armenian refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh, as this is a very sensitive and emotional issue for Armenians and is clearly a humanitarian issue.
